Summer Review

This is going to be a summer review in reverse, because I still need to get some of the pictures from our trip to San Diego. Most recently, we took a short weekend trip to Sedona for a mini getaway for David's birthday. Short, because we didn't leave until after work Friday night, so we got up there about 9, and then we left Sunday morning to be home for church at 11:30. Really it was mostly just Saturday. We got up in the morning, and decided on doing a hike called Soldier's Pass, which also took us to the "Seven Sacred Pools." We arrived at our destination, and realized that you have to have a "Red Rock Pass" to hike there, and you can't buy it at the trailhead, so we had to drive all the way back in to town to get one. 45 minutes later, we actually start the hike. The first thing we came across was the "Devil's Kitchen" sinkhole.

From there on out, it was nothing more than a hot hike in the desert. We never did find the Seven Sacred Pools. We think we might have found where they were supposed to be, but if it was really them, they were all dried up. Not surprising.

After the hike, we grabbed some lunch, went back to our room to change into our swimsuits, then we headed down to Oak Creek.

You can go to the Slide Rock State Park, or we found another place, where you can hike down 1/2-3/4 mile to the creek, and it's a little bit less crowded and FREE. There were a lot of college aged kids there, and a couple families, but we were two of very few people who actually SLID down creek. The rocks in the creek are quite mossy, and very slippery, so you sit down and it will carry you down about 100 yards or so. It's fun, and everyone makes fun of you when you get buried under the water.

By the time we hiked out, we were quite hungry, so we showered up and went for some dinner. Mexican sounded good and the desk people recommended a place to us. Mexican food in Sedona is expensive and not very good. The salsa tasted like blended up tomatoes and nothing more. Super bland. The rest of the food was very bland as well. I guess the people that visit Sedona do not like spicy food.

And that my friends, was the excitingess of the Sedona trip. Next up...Snow family reunion and Zion's Nat'l Park.
