Nothing like fresh powder

It has been a couple of years since David and I went snowboarding, since we sorta had a brand new baby last year at this time. There was part of me that really wanted to go this year, and the other part of me that didn’t want to take a whole Saturday to driving up there, and waiting in line forever. But I knew that we would regret it if we didn’t go. We decided instead of dealing with the Saturday crowds (we often have to wait in line at the lifts for half an hour), that David would take a day off of work and we would go during the week. It was getting late in the season, and we were worried that the snow wouldn’t be so great.
We head up to Snowbowl (in Flagstaff), on Monday morning. The forecast said there was a 30% chance of afternoon snow showers. It was already snowing and foggy when we got there. People were turning in their passes and leaving, because they were cold and miserable. I was a little discouraged that our one chance to go this year was going to be miserable, but we were there, so we decided to make the most of it.
It ended up being an almost perfect day of snowboarding. The powder was perfect, and the snowfall all day kept it that way. There was NO ONE on the mountain. There was never a line at the lift. The only problem was the wind and visibility. At the top of the mountain, it felt like you were being blasted with sand in your face. The cold wasn’t all that bad either. All my years of doing nightboarding in UT in below freezing temps made this seem not so bad.100_3724 100_3726 100_3728
We had to drive pretty slowly getting out of there, considering we don’t have snow tires or chains, but we made it without incident.
It was so much fun to be back on the mountain. Good times.

Hey Melissa, if you ever decide to come to Sunrise to ski, stop over at our home. Leave Shayla. Take Calla. She is a good snowboarder. She would love you forever. Spend the night in our guest bedroom. Fun! Love, Aunt Terry
P.S. Post pictures of Taylor's wedding for me, I don't Facebook and I'm dying to see how they looked!

I went skiing this season for the first time in 2 years and it was also perfect. If only it weren't so much work to go. Glad you guys had a good time. There really is nothing like being on top of a mountain.
